Why handpan players love Notepan

This software is really amazing! It has changed my way of learning new patterns and playing handpan tremendously. I learn faster, play more fluently and really enjoy it. And the customer service? Excellent. Questions are answered very quickly and attentively by the developer himself.

Today I can say that I use Notepan almost every day and it has made me a better player. Between my own compositions and those from the Notepan library, I now have more than an hour of repertoire I can play reliably.

When I'm just fooling around with the handpan, I usually end up with similar patterns I always do, but when trying to compose with Notepan, I can try out patterns and grooves that I'm not familiar with. [...] It is a very efficient tool for working on ideas and compose a full song out of it.

Maxence

Built by a handpan player, for handpan players

Hi, I'm Maxence, the creator and developer behind Notepan. I started playing handpan in late 2020 after years of playing guitar. As a guitarist, tools like Guitar Pro were an essential part of my learning journey. Playing songs I love has always been my favorite way to learn, and tabs made that process incredibly easy. When I switched to handpan and realized there was no equivalent tool, I immediately felt something was missing. To solve this for myself, I started transcribing handpan videos into spreadsheets using a simple notation system that I refined over time. My collection of personal tabs quickly grew, and I began to realize that if it was useful to me, it might be useful to other players as well. That's how the idea for Notepan was born. The funny thing is, I wasn't even a developer when I started this project. Software development is a passion I discovered along the way, and today I'm grateful to combine both of my passions to build tools that help the handpan community.

Yes. While some features require an internet connection — such as browsing and downloading tablatures from the Tab Library — all editing, transposition and playback tools can be used offline. You can also save any tablature from the library to your personal tabs, allowing you to access and practice it even when you're offline.
Not yet — automatic transcription is a feature we'd love to add in the future. For now, tabs are written manually, either by the Notepan team or by community members. The good news is that the editor is designed to make manual transcription as fast and intuitive as possible.
